Common restrictions
1. Only candidates who have applied to and have been accepted by an EMMC consortium in accordance
with its specific students' application and selection criteria, are eligible for a scholarship.
2. Students can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship to the EMMCs of their choice but the number of
applications must be limited to maximum three courses.
3. Scholarship candidates must have already obtained a first higher education degree or demonstrate a
recognised equivalent level of learning according to national legislation and practices.
4. Individuals who have already benefited from an EMMC scholarship are not eligible for a second
scholarship in order to follow the same or another EMMC.
5. Students benefiting from an EMMC scholarship cannot benefit from another Community grant while
pursuing their Erasmus Mundus masters studies.
6. EMMC students scholarships are awarded exclusively for a full-time enrolment in one of the course
editions.
7. In order to make the programme more attractive for Third-Country nationals, the amount of the fullstudy
scholarship will be higher for Third-Country master students (Category A scholarships) than for
European master students (Category B scholarships). More specifically:
Erasmus Mundus grants: Category A (Third-Country students) [new EM rules]
Category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students selected by EMMC consortia who
come from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have
carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last
five years in one of these countries.
Eligible beneficiaries: Third-Country individual means a person who is neither a national nor a resident of any of the
Member States or the countries participating in the programme according to Article 9 of the Programme
Decision:
Only "third-country" graduate students who have applied to and have been accepted by an Erasmus Mundus Masters
Course are eligible for a EM Category A scholarship. All countries of the world with
the exception of the Member States of the European Union, the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland,
Liechtenstein, Norway), the candidate countries for accession to
the EU (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Croatia and Turkey) are
considered third countries (i.e. non-EU).
However,
applicants originating from one of the above excluded countries could be elligible for EM scholarships in the annual specific geographic window.

Erasmus Mundus grants: Category B (European students) [new EM rules]
Category B scholarships can be awarded to any masters students selected by EMMC consortia and
who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.
Eligible beneficiaries: European individual means a person who is a national or a resident of any of the Member States or the
countries participating in the programme according to Article 9 of the Programme Decision:
Only "European country" graduate students who have applied to and have been accepted by an Erasmus Mundus Masters
Course are eligible for a EM Category B scholarship. All the EU Member States, the EEA-EFTA states (Iceland,
Liechtenstein, Norway) and the candidate countries for accession to
the EU (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Croatia and Turkey) are
considered European countries (i.e. EU).
However,
applicants originating from one of the above countries could
be elligible for EM Category A scholarship in the annual specific geographic window.

Erasmus Mundus grants: Scholarships for researcher/Teacher
EMMC scholarships will be awarded to European and Third-Country scholars in accordance with the
following criteria:
Scholarships for scholars enrolled in Third-Country institutions who will be selected by the
EMMC consortium to contribute to the joint programme;
if the consortium includes Third-Country partners, scholarships for scholars enrolled in EU
institutions for the purpose of contributing to the joint programme within this(/these) Third-Country
